Had To Go Back....This is a song about addictions and I've been involved with each
of them. I guess that makes it autobiographical. It's nice to be able to look
back with a wink and a grin. Or is that a grimace.....?
Ice Cream Sundae....This is a lighthearted look at dying alone. I was put on to the idea
in a conversation on the beach over beers with a woman who told me a story
about being carried well offshore by a rip current. Assuming she was about to
drown, her only regret would have been dying alone. She was rescued in the
nick of time and got another shot at life. Me, I got the song.
Homegrown Tomatoes....Guy Clark wrote it and John Denver covered it. If it was good
enough for John it's plenty good enough for me. Plus it's a fun song.
Cold Shoulder.............. Dave and Shawn did some rework on this while I was out of the
room. I said, "You you screwed up my folk song!". Dave told me it was fine.
Besides, it keeps the cd from having 12 songs all sounding the same. It's
growing on me....
'57 Buick.......................So who among us hasn't cast a wistful thought back to a high
school sweetheart? Or even Googled an almost forgotten lover? Enough said!
But that Buick was one damn fine automobile!
Graduation Day...........A perfect example of a song with a handful of characters all
identified in the first person. I mean, who could make THAT many mistakes?
The tune came with a new, for me, D-28. That distinctive bass demanded it!
Devil's Habanero.........About 3 lovely women on vacation in Baja. I coulda been in love
with all 3, one at a time or simultaneously, it wouldn't have mattered. So
they're gone, but I've still got the song.
Never Too Late............Not the best song I've ever written, but far and away the best
title. Not that I thought it up....Thanks A.G.
On Getting Older........."Aging with Grace" should be a required class starting when you
hit 55. America would be the better for it!
Women I Love..............How many people fall into this trap? Every therapist and barfly
I've talked to agrees it's a universal problem and all but unavoidable.
Blue Collar Blues...........Could also be called The Great Escape and a lot of people here
in Baja have pulled it off.
Closer to God..................The perfect close to this cd. It sums up my life right here.
